Its second recording with Maestro Miller, Noel, was released in September. The ensemble's 2010-2011 season includes a concert tour of Florida, performances at its home in Princeton, a broadcast of Westminster's annual An Evening of Readings and Carols holiday concert and its annual residency at the Spoleto Festival USA. It has been the chorus-in-residence for the Spoleto Festival USA since 1977, performing both in concert and as the opera chorus. Setting the standard for choral excellence for 90 years, the Westminster Choir is composed of students at Westminster Choir College, a division of Rider University's Westminster College of the Arts, in Princeton, N.J. Voz en Punto is, indeed, the irrefutable proof that the voice is the most glorious instrument which humankind has always had at its disposition.
Such adjectives would hardly seem to describe a vocal group which achieves its effects without the aid of microphones or other paraphernalia. The end result is an audience which becomes-to quote the group's press notes-"Ecstatic", "On Fire", or "Delirious". It is within the context of this great talent, vocal aplomb, charisma, and interpretative flair, in which each member of Voz en Punto places his or her own seal. As if this repertoire weren't versatile enough, the group has also presented programs consisting of European composers, including motets and madrigals Latin-American music, from tangos to Cuban music and Brazilian bossa-nova negro spirituals, etc., etc. This exceptional ensemble, founded by its director Jose Galvan in 1990, has focused its artistic energy on the highly colorful arena of Mexican culture nevertheless, it is capable of interpreting with equal success a wide variety of music, from pieces of Mexican colonial polyphony from the 16th and 17th centuries, songs in native tongues and/or with African influences, up to folklore and music of living Mexican concert composers. Franz Schubert's first compositions were written when he was with the court choir boys, always in conflict with his teachers, since he was more interested in music than in getting good marks for his school work. Joseph Haydn, who actually belonged to the Cathedral Choir of St Stephan, sang together with the court choir boys in the chapel of the Hofburg and in the newly built palace of Sch-nbrunn. Its first-class training has produced numerous highly qualified vocalists, violinists and pianists. Since then the Vienna Boys' Choir has been a fixed attraction in Austrian musical life.Ī number of famous musicians have emerged from its ranks. Thus he showed his great interest in contemporary musical developments in Burgundy and the Netherlands. A founding document of Maximilian I in 1498 called the first dozen boys to the imperial court as members of the newly formed court music band. For nearly five hundred years they have been a symbol of Austria. The Vienna Boys' Choir is one of the oldest boys' choirs existing in the world. Vesnivka Choir continually commissions Canadian composers in order to develop its repertoire, to provide for these creative individuals a venue for their talents and to introduce these new and wonderful sounds to choral audiences.
In 2000, Vesnivka Choir travelled to Linz, Austria where it competed in the 1st Choir Olympics and won a Silver Medal in the Folklore A Cappella category. Gwynn Williams International Trophy for outstanding performance. At the closing of the choral competition, the Choir performed at the grand finale and was awarded the esteemed W.S. In 1993, Vesnivka attended its first International Choral Competition in Llangollen, Wales and won first place in the Folk category, competing against 22 world-class choirs. The 40 member choir grew out of the Ukrainian-Canadian community of Toronto and its surrounding area and is considered to be one of the most prominent and respected women's choirs in North America. Vesnivka, founded in 1965 by Halyna Kvitka Kondracki, is an acclaimed and award winning women's choir based in Toronto, Canada.
